Some “unnatural colour” dyes will give you a deeper shade of red than those when you apply it over your natural hair, some “natural colour” dyes will “lift” your colour for a slightly redder shade, but if you go for an unnatural dye, black hair generally does need to be bleached before it is dyed. It’s also recommended that with hair that dark and your first time bleaching it you go to a salon instead of doing it yourself at home, they may even carry a dye in the exact or similar shade you want.
